Ewing Receives AVCA All-America Honors

The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced the 28th Annual AVCA Division III All-America Teams Tuesday afternoon and junior Katie Ewing was St. Mary’s College of Maryland lone representative as Ewing received honorable mention laurels.

Smithson Picked as an All-Region Honoree

Senior Emily Smithson just added another award to her field hockey resume as Smithson was named to the 2008 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III All-South Region First Team as announced Monday morning by Jennifer Goodrich, NFHCA executive director.

Scott Named Co-CAC Player-of-the-Week

Capital Athletic Conference commissioner, Tom Byrnes, announced Monday afternoon the first CAC Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week of the 2008-09 season. Winning the first weekly award of the year was St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s senior Allie Scott and freshman Katie Wimmer of the University of Mary Washington.

The 5-10 middle blocker was selected as the October Athlete-of-the-Month, becoming the second volleyball player to earn such an honor this year.
