The 2007-08 campaign will mark Andre Barbins' 10th season at the helm of the St. Mary's men's and women's swimming programs. Barbins boasts a nine-year dual meet mark of 45-37-1 (34-29-1 CAC) with the women and 24-49 (19-41 CAC) on the men's side. Under Barbins, the women have shattered 27 school marks, including 11 during the 2006-07 season, and had four qualifiers for the NCAA Championships, while the men have broken 18 school records. The women have been tabbed as a College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) All-Academic team during all nine years of Barbins’ tenure, while the men have been cited as a CSCAA All-Academic squad the past seven seasons. A 1993 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, Barbins was a four-year letterwinner and team captain for the Battling Bishops. After leaving Ohio Wesleyan, he spent one season as the head coach at Regina High School in Euclid, Ohio, and one season as an assistant coach at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. He left Ohio for Washington (Md.) College in Chestertown where he earned a master's degree in psychology while serving as a graduate assistant coach for two seasons. After his stint at Washington, Barbins spent a year and a half as an assistant coach at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. A Cleveland native, Barbins currently makes his home in Solomons, Maryland, with his wife, the former Sharon Eliassen, and their newborn daughter, Anya, who was born May 24, 2007. |
