The 2007 campaign will mark Megan Block's fifth season at the helm of the Seahawk field hockey program. Block was hired as the head coach for both field hockey and women's lacrosse on August 7, 2003; however, the coaching position was split in June of 2006 and she now just focuses on field hockey. She is also serves as an Assistant Director of Athletics & Recreation and as the Senior Woman Administrator at St. Mary's. Block has compiled a four-year coaching record of 44-25 after taking over a program that had never won more than six games in any season prior to her arrival. For the second consecutive season, she guided the Seahawks to a 12-5 mark in 2006 and to the No. 3 seed in the CAC Tournament. It marked the fourth straight season that the Seahawks posted a winning season with at least 10 wins and hosted a league playoff game. In 2005, Block led the Seahawks to a program-best 12 wins against five losses. The team also set numerous records during the season, including a program-best eight-game winning streak. Her second year had the Seahawks going 10-6 and earning their first back-to-back 10-win seasons in the history of the program. In her first season, Block coached the team to a 10-9 overall record and to the No. 3 seed in the conference postseason tournament. It marked the first-time in school history that the Seahawks posted a winning season and hosted a postseason contest. She first came to St. Mary’s as an assistant coach for both field hockey and women's lacrosse on January 28, 2002, after serving as an intern for the field hockey program at Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y., during the 2001 season. Prior to Hamilton, Block was an assistant for two years at her alma mater, Salisbury University, and helped guide the Sea Gulls to two conference championships and an NCAA Final Four appearance in 2000. Block played field hockey collegiately at Salisbury from 1995-98, helping lead the Sea Gulls to four conference championships as a forward. She was a two-time All-America selection (1997 & 1998), as well as the 1998 CAC Player-of-the-Year. Block was also selected as Salisbury’s 1999 Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She graduated from Salisbury in 1999 with a bachelors degree in physical education and continued her education at Salisbury, earning a master’s degree in education in 2001. Block is married to Jayme, St. Mary's head men's lacrosse coach, and the couple lives in nearby Lexington Park with their two daughters, Keeley and Sydney. |
